News

April 16, 2016 was Record Store Day, an international day that celebrates independent record stores with special release editions. Hozier’s Take Me To Church EP released for the first time as a picture disc on vinyl in very limited quantities.

ABC News Radio published an interview with Hozier where he talks about his new music.

In the Woods Somewhere provides cinematic tension to the soundtrack of the Dark Souls 3 launch trailer, released this week.

Bob Boilen from NPR’s All Songs Considered and the creator of the Tiny Desk Concert series released a book of interviews last week entitled, Your Song Changed My Life. It includes Hozier and his answer to the question, which you can find here.13047936_1155187191159048_5377807895946503895_o

Billboard asked musicians, including Hozier, what they would name their own tell-all memoir.

Talking Dead

On Sunday, April 10 Hozier appeared on The Talking Dead, a chat show about The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead. For a while, BBC Radio 1 had removed Hozier’s Live Lounge performances from YouTube. This may have only been temporary as they have started to re-appear on the new BBCRadio1VEVO channel.

Rory Doyle joined his former bandmates for their appearance on The Ray D’Arcy Show on April 16, 2016 to play The Upswing.  The performance is also available on RTE player until Monday May 16, 2016.

Life

Hozier is lying low and enjoying himself. Mostly.

Alex Ryan celebrated his birthday on April 11.

One year ago Alex spent his birthday at Coachella and treated the audience to a “sexy bass solo” on Jungle Love while the band treated him to cake. Two years ago, Alex was in studio with Hozier tracking bass for the album. Don’t miss our feature on Alex Ryan.

Alana Henderson is at a songwriting retreat to, in her words, “write, record, plot for the coming months & to be still…”

She’s caught a cold, lost her voice, been watched by ghosts, visited by bats and broken out the flute.

Lorraine Barnes was getting some colourful inspiration in Spain and rising early to meet the day.

Mia Fitzgerald was in Los Angeles, soaking up the sunshine and the city lights.

Rachael Lampa was back at The Ryman in Nashville but this time in the audience to see her friend Tori Kelly perform. The tiny hands made an appearance with Tori too.

Romes

This week Hozier introduced his friends, Romes. The four members of Romes were all previously members of Nightbox, who formed in County Wicklow in the late naughts.  Now calling Toronto home, Romes has a new sound and a brand-new EP, Believe.  Romes was named New Band of the Week by the Guardian. Listen on Spotify or watch the video for Believe.

Little Green Cars

Little Green Cars hit the half way point in their tour this week and played Austin, Houston, Dallas, Nashville and Atlanta. Check their web site for east-coast tour dates.

They stopped for an in-store performance at Cactus Music in Houston. Here they are performing You Vs. Me from Ephemera and a cover of Galveston.

And Stevie Appleby celebrated his birthday on April 15 in Nashville.

Wyvern Lingo

Wyvern Lingo played the Trinity Ball, a show that Karen Cowley, Hozier, Alex Ryan and many other friends have played as part of the Trinity Orchestra.

Wyvern Lingo also played a showcase on April 16 in the coolest, rockinest barbershop ever. They’ll be headlining in London on May 21st.

Saint Sister

Gemma and Morgan have wrapped up recording their second EP! They were featured on Southwind Blows and have an upcoming show on May 27 at the Unitarian Church in Dublin. They also announced that they’re on the bill for Another Love Story in August.

Jarlath Henderson

Alana Henderson contributed some vocals to her brother Jarlath Henderson‘s solo album called Broken Hearts, Heads Turned released last month. It takes traditional folk songs and fuses them with electronics, world beat rhythms and jazz elements. Jarlath was the youngest ever recipient of the BBC Young Folk award in 2003 and an award-winning uilleann piper. He recently released a short documentary about the making of the album.

BARQ

BARQ had the spotlight on the Independent’s Windmill Lane Sessions and were announced for the Groove Festival in Wicklow this July.

Zaska

We loved this line from Golden Plec: “…the band has been jokingly referred to as the Mickey Mouse Club of Irish music because of the levels of success achieved by former members…” Those former members include Hozier, Karen Cowley (Wyvern Lingo) and Dylan Lynch (Little Green Cars).

Golden Plec hosted the exclusive stream of Zaska’s new single Got To Go. The launch is on April 23 at the Sugar Club. And Zaska was also announced on the Groove Festival lineup this summer.
