We have the gig highlights from the Canadian dates kicking off Hozier’s Nina Cried Power North American tour on 15 September in Ottawa-Montréal-Toronto. Extras include some of the media that Hozier did while there and his day as a tourist in Ottawa. Click on the venue names and text links throughout the post for more photos and videos.
Playing Tourist
Hozier has often said that when he’s on tour he doesn’t get to see much of the cities he visits. It’s a world viewed through bus windows, venue backstages, and hotels. Arriving in Ottawa before the tour started gave Hozier time to get over jet lag and play tourist in the Capital of Canada, something he rarely has time to do.

It’s always impressive when a festival crowd holds their chatter for a quieter song.

L’Olympia – Montréal, QC
Capacity: 2600
Support: Hudson Taylor
Hozier’s beautiful new backdrop was designed by Steven Douglas, the new Lighting Director on tour. He’s stepped in nicely to fill Matthew Kilmurry‘s shoes, keeping up the high standard we’ve come to expect from Hozier’s team.
Additional photos by Steph Payez, and Bad Feeling Magazine.
Like Real People Do
This is the first time we’ve seen the audience wave their hands in time with Like Real People Do.
Jackie & Wilson
Cherry Wine
There were two performances of Cherry Wine after the initial song was interrupted by a medical emergency in the crowd.
To Be Alone (full)
The fan favourite call-back returns! As has Hozier’s original Bohemian Motor Oil guitar that we call Murphy. (He switched to a Vintage Sunoco Mercury Bohemian for the latter part of the last tour.)
September 18th happens to be the fantastic Rory Doyle’s birthday! Watch the Montréal crowd sing “Happy Birthday” to him before Work Song.

Take Me To Church
Stepping out from behind the guitar really gives Hozier the freedom to move around the stage.
Moment’s Silence (Common Tongue)
Great view of Suzanne and Rory in this clip.

Interviews
Toronto was the beginning of the North American tour promo. Hozier did a number of interviews there including this fantastic session with Tom Power on CBC Radio One, Q.
Hozier also spoke with Tom Schenck from 101.2 The Edge.
Hozier and the band recorded a gorgeous acoustic version of Nina Cried Power for Indie88’s Black Box Sessions captured on video in black & white, it creates a stunning mood.
No gig highlights post would be complete without a shot of the bow. Here we have the very first bow of the tour from CityFolk Festival!
