Bread & Roses Benefit

Hozier was the headliner at the Rockin’ the Roses concert last night in San Francisco. The fundraiser for Bread & Roses, an organisation that brings music to people living in social isolation, also featured duo Honey Honey and Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real on the bill at the Great American Music Hall.

Set

Hozier’s 45-minute solo acoustic set was an intimate one for the sold out crowd of 600. It had some surprises too, including his fine cover of Van Morrisson’s Sweet Thing (full video below) and Work Song with duo Honey Honey providing backing vocals. His rarely heard solo acoustic performance of From Eden (full video below) was more tender and vulnerable than the full band version fans had come to know at the end of his tour in 2016.

Here’s the full setlist:

To Be Alone
From Eden
It Will Come Back
Sweet Thing
Cherry Wine
Work Song with Honey Honey
Take Me To Church
The Parting Glass (Encore)

For us, the encore of The Parting Glass was the standout, goosebump-inducing song that showcased Hozier’s unaccompanied voice. Although he sang this traditional song with Alana Henderson at their Museum Stage acoustic trad set in 2015, no full video from that performance has surfaced.

We’re very pleased to share this video of The Parting Glass from Hozier’s performance in San Francisco. Our thanks to @JoeMommaLuvsYa for sharing it with us.
